Overlay as it relates to poker has a couple of meanings. If a tournament has a guaranteed prize pool, the game always holds a prize as the top participant. The player who accumulates points on a tournament are eligible for the prize pool to himself. Sometimes the tournament does not have a prize pool, but each player accumulates points anyway.

Overlay also means the use of additional credit in the tournament for the winners.  One common way to use the overlay in poker is to receive a comp บาคาร่า on the fractional odds of the player who is favored to win the game.  Fractional odds are simply the fact that the fractional amount the odds are published as opposed to the decimal odds, which are the actual odds.  They are published to avoid what is known as tied bets, where a bet may not be placed, but a profit may be made by taking the decimal odds.

For example, “5€5€5€ on a even money bet would result in a payout of 8:1. This means if the bettor bets $5 he will receive $25 on a $1 bet. Therefore, it is best to play restraint, and not to deviate from the plan.

In an overlay, the bettor may be allowed to bet more than the minimum. If the player bets the standard $5, the house gives him only $10. If the player bets $100, the house lets him bet $200. The player may bet any amount he wants, and the house is obligated to pay him in $10 increments until his winnings reach the maximum of $200, or until he runs out of money.

This rule of thumb is how most people play the game, Overlays are the most widespread among players because the winnings are staggering. Usually a player can only play one overlay, but a three or four will do just fine. The overlay is usually the leading player's advantage. Because the overlay can manipulate the size of the pot, it is prime material to take your pot production from the pot available to the overlay. In a nutshell, if the overlay has a better chance of winning than you, he should bet more money. If you want to win, you should take the money that is ABSOLUTELY yours.

The trap with oversolls is that you lose a lot of money to the blinds, and sometimes you don't find your full complement of chips in your hand until the close proximity to the cutoff. Use the overlay to your advantage, but don't let it completely control your play. If you are out, and can't chips, you should not be playing the game in the first place. The key to winning poker tournaments is to be more than just a hazard on the field. Play smartly, but get your hands on the stuff of your opponents.
