Winning Poker Online - How to Beat the Odds
I was talking with a friend yesterday - one that doesn't play poker - and I found myself having to defend my losing some 50 tournaments since my last big win. I had to explain my 156% ROI, and lecture on how the long term is what's important. You see - I won $25,000 playing online poker last year, by playing mostly NL Hi-lo tournaments, balanced around $10 tournaments. I had a lot of losing sessions, butNumber of times I won $10,000 or more: 50
Other than that, I had mostly สมัครบาคาร่า winning sessions, and I attributed my success to the skills I have learned. Later, another friend told me he was making pretty much the same - $10,000, sometimes $15,000, and very few losses. I told him he needed to study harder. Whoop-de-doo, he went and bought a book on poker.
That fixed the problem, I admit. But, rather than go out and find more books on poker, I decided to play in smaller games - like $2 tournaments and $4 tournaments. Once again, I had mostly losers, but not too many.Once again, I began to study the game, and I found out that the players who were making a lot of money in these games were good bets. I could make a profit, and nothing else matter. These are the games you want to be playing.
Of course, I didn't win every tournament, but I began to win a lot more than when I was just starting out. I had the idea of what strategies would win big tournaments, and I began to implement them. Now I play in about 10 tournaments each time.
In the beginning, I was very aggressive, betting large amounts on hands that I thought were good, or hands with potential, and so on. As I evolved as a player, I began to realize that I was betting at the wrong time, and often bullpen my bets if I had a weak hand. This is the soft part of the game, making a bad decision after having already made a commitment. But once I broke that sucker-hand-apper, I enjoyed the game a lot more.
After I began to enjoy the game more, I realized that the soft part is actually the reward. The games are softer now - you aren't going to break the bank so easily. Tournament play is a little friendlier, and so far I am up $3600 (at the time of this writing). At this point, you could probably do the math on how much you might make if you wait for your big hand, pull out before the blinds reach you, and so on.
Instead of playing 16-round tournaments where you have 16 hours to play, you play 60-hour games. If you can make it to the first break, you are in pretty good shape. As we will discuss, however, it is also important to be patient. You are not going to win every tournament that you play. In fact, you are better off making it to the money, and then playing relatively safe until you make the money.
There are many tips for succeeding in poker, but the most important is to have patience. It is easy to want action, but it is a trap to keep playing when you have nothing, or to get impatient and play unsafe. The old adage, don't scratch the itch until you scratch the surface until you know the table you are in, is so important. You can see every surface on the poker board very quickly, but sometimes when we get to the middle of the board, we have a lot more time. Take the time to learn the mathematics of your game, and don't be afraid to take a little more time to learn the nuances of your game and opponents.
